My weight loss journey began in 2004. I had always been heavy and had several times made half-hearted attempts to lose weight. I got serious after I discovered something distressing. Between May and August of 2004 I gained 15 pounds! If I went on the same way I would gain 60 pounds per year! This spurred me to do two things - give up candy and join TOPS (a non-profit weight loss support group). I lost 25 pounds in six months. But it takes more than changing 1 thing and talking to lose weight. I exercised some. I ate a little better. And my weight slowly dropped. Then I changed jobs. I worked in a firm with high stress and lots of snacks. I started snacking (candy included) and gained back some of the weight I had lost.
At Halloween 2007, I tried to get back to my weight loss. I joined an on-line support group, began going more steadily to TOPS, and gave up candy again. Unfortunately, my health interfered. It is difficult to concentrate on losing weight when you are seriously ill. So I set aside my weight loss goals until after my latest (and last) surgery.
Surgery was New Year’s Eve. So I started the New Year with healing, and now I’m back on track. I’m still keeping up with the on-line group. My return to TOPS is the second week of January 2008. I found a diet buddy in my sister. And I signed up for the New Day My Way Challenge with K-Mart. My support network is set up. I will begin to exercise as soon as my doctor gives me the okay to do so. And I am tracking what I eat using diet software called FitDay.
